OUR PHILANTHROPIC PROGRAMS:

Assistance League of San Luis Obispo County funds and operates three programs: Operation School Bell® (OSB) gives children in need good quality new clothing for school. Children from kindergarten through 6th grade are referred to us by schools and social service agencies.

Each child receives:

• 6 pairs of socks and underwear
  
  
• 2 pairs of jeans (girls may choose jeans and a dress)
  
  
• 2 tops / shirts
  
  
• 1 hooded jacket
  
  
• 1 pair of shoes
  
  
  

We clothe at our two locations but we also take clothing to schools where children cannot come to us. We clothe about 1000 children each year. Thanks to generous help from local merchants and the hard work of our volunteer buyers, we are able to clothe each child for about $80.

Books for Packs provides each child with a new backpack and a new grade-appropriate book. For many children, these are their first-ever new books.

Assistance League Totes provides a tote bag containing clothing and toiletries for Assault survivors and women at SLO County Women's Shelters and the Sexual Assault Recovery and Prevention Service center. Children admitted to the Women's Shelters are given a children's tote bag containing a stuffed animal, personal items and toiletries. We distribute more than 100 of these kits each year; many assault victims arrive at the shelters without even the most basic items.
