About Us
Assistance League is a national 501(c)3 nonprofit, non-political, non-sectarian service organization. The San Luis Obispo County chapter was chartered in 1996 and is dedicated to recognizing the potential of volunteers in helping those less fortunate to a better, more meaningful life here in our county. Assistance League of San Luis Obispo County (ALSLOC) is a nonprofit, all-volunteer organization serving families and children through our philanthropic program Operation School Bell®, which includes Sue’s Stars and Operation Bookshelf.
Treasurer’s Report
Our Chapter is in sound financial shape. The 2010-2011 financial statements were reviewed and audited by our CPA. The results of our efforts were validated and showed that 82% of all expenditures were spent on program services. We spend cautiously and wisely. We are required by the National Assistance League guidelines to always maintain one year’s projected expenses in reserve. Our reserve is well within that requirement. We are a nonprofit organization in which the community can feel comfortable in financially supporting our mission to clothe needy children in our County.
Fundraising
Funding for our philanthropic programs is raised through a variety of chapter events as well as through the generosity of private contributors, foundations, service organizations and municipalities. All funds stay within our County to support our programs.
We have three major fundraising events throughout the year to support our programs - a gala, Fiesta by the Sea in the spring, Charitable Chic, our fall fashion show and at year end our direct mailer, Warm Your Heart.
